Monster Party

One more Halloween show to announce, on October 28th we’re putting on a special edition of Strange Animations at Purgatory in Bushwick. Mostafa approached me a long time ago about a special Monster themed Strange Animations for this October and we’re making it happen! Beautiful flier below by Mostafa, ticket link here.

This show will feature Old Tree (harp), Mike Nowotarski (guitar/synth), and Cole Makuch (guitar).

Tickets are on sale now for this, and all other October shows, scroll to bottom of this post or check out our website for all listings. Haxan is coming up soon on October 8th, that one will be our only Manhattan show.

Just a reminder, we are still running our end of year fundraiser, if you value what you do, please consider becoming a paid tier subscriber here on Substack or making a one-time donation here on Pools.

Halloween Horror

Thank you to everyone who made it out to our 3 Year Anniversary Show at Ornithology last Saturday. Your support means the world to us. If you missed out but you want to the group some love, please consider supporting our annual Fall Fundraiser or attending one of our upcoming shows.

October is a big time for us and this year is no different. We have 4 shows coming up, including a screening and live score of Phantom of the Opera (1925) with a real church organ at the Stone Circle Theater, a 130 year old church in Ridgewood.

The other highlight is that we are performing on Halloween for the first time ever. We’re going back to the Pine Box Rock Shop, a spooky bar housed in a former casket shop, to present a screening and live score of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

If you like witchy things, you have a chance to catch Haxan on the LES at Berlin. When the film was initially released it was considered shocking for its satanic and sexual imagery. This will be our only Manhattan show for the Fall season.

Finally, we have a special edition of Strange Animations built around the theme of MONSTERS. This will be at our favorite venue in Bushwick, Purgatory, an absolutely perfect space for this collection of films. This one has been in the works for a while, tickets are not on sale just yet.

You can find the dates and ticket links for all of these on our website here. We strongly urge you to get tickets now as our October events generally sell out. We’ll have a few emails going out this month as well.
